DLAR Service Requests During the Thanksgiving Holiday and Winter Break

During the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and winter break, the DLAR main office will be closed. Animal care staff remain on site, however, on shortened schedules. Please plan ahead for service requests (i.e., weaning, post-op monitoring, special diets/water, etc.).

Thanksgiving holiday break is November 28th and 29th. Service requests are due no later than the end of the day Monday, November 25th.

Winter break runs from December 24, 2024 through January 1, 2025. Service requests are due no later than the end of the day, Friday, December 20th. Service requests made outside of the due dates listed above may be denied.

To schedule your service requests, contact Ashley Kurth.

Animal Orders & Deliveries

We encourage you to plan ahead as many of our animal vendors are adjusting their schedules during the week of Thanksgiving.

All animal vendors are closed on November 28th for the Thanksgiving holiday.

All animal orders placed for delivery Dec. 2nd are due Thursday, November 21st.

An additional announcement will be sent out for December once vendor schedules are confirmed.

Process Time for Live Animal Imports & Exports

We value the collaborative efforts between our UToledo researchers and other institutions and the critical step it can bring to your research. Due to the comprehensive process to import and/or export research animals, it can take several weeks to months to complete and relies on a variety of factors. This is especially true during our ongoing large-scale renovations.

Every effort is made to process imports/exports in a timely manner, in the order they are received. You will always be kept updated and your patience is much appreciated during the process

For more information, please refer to the Importation/Exportation of Live Animals webpage.

Weaning for Success

As a reminder, it is critical to follow the correct procedure when weaning. Use our versatile ‘Expecting/Weaning’ cage card as a tool to help guide you.

Permanent Cage Card UPDATE

Our white, permanent cage card has received an update. On the back of the card, you will find a space to use to place labels for TEMPORARY experimental phases (i.e., chem hazards, fasting, special diet/water, etc.). This side of the card is not for everyday use.

When in use, turn the cage card over, fill in all 4 lines and place your label. Once complete, turn the cage card back over to the front.
